Front page of a study guide that says "Departmental" and "Scripps Institution of Oceanography". It also has fish on it.

Let’s Get Oceanographic!

SciGal Anya made this booklet to prepare for her first year PhD exam. While it is not comprehensive (nor typo free), it is a useful starting place to review some basic oceanographic concepts.

FYI!

Just a little note if you decide to view my study guide:

Over the last few weeks I worked really hard to create a visually engaging guide to highlight some of what I thought were the most important take aways from three of my core classes as a first year PhD student.

I will be the first to tell you, however, that this guide is not all encompassing. I mainly used it as a motivational tool to go back and review old material; thus, much of the information represented here is boiled down to the absolute basics as the real review happened while I revisited old lectures.

I got many requests to share this guide and I am a huge believer in the sharing and spreading of knowledge (for free when possible!), so I have decided to upload it with the caveat that this roughly twenty page guide can in no way fully encompass my first year as a PhD student.

That being said, I think it did turn out very beautiful and it is a good starting point to review some basic oceanographic topics. Please don’t mind the many typos (this guide was made in my limited spare time) or take it’s word as final.

With all of that in mind I hope my “Departmental” study guide is useful to you in one way or another and reminds you how amazing our ocean is!

xo,

Anya
